Forgotten Again - The Saga Continues

Written By:
Nancy Grable

If you read my last article(s), "Forgotten Again - Part 1 and Forgotten Again - Part 2", you know that all the lovely organizations who help people after national disasters seem to forget, leave out, or ignore when the south west coast of Florida is in need.

Now you would think, after this last hurricane, Hurricane Wilma, they would at least send FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for Operation Blue Roof* to the area right?

Wrong!

No one is here.

There is rain coming in two days. People (like my mother) have roofs that are damaged, which need to be covered before it gets here to avoid more damage to their homes.

There are others in this area who are worse off than we are who need help as well.

Yet no one is here.

Where are they? Why aren't they there helping those in need? Those hit by the storm first. (If you read my last article, you probably know what I am about to say next.)

They are in Miami! Just like I expected.

Yes. The place hit less. The place hit after this coast was. That is where all the help is going.

The county I live in isn't even on the recording for the blue roof help yet. (1-888-766-3258) Even though it got a lot of damage.

Only the counties on the other coast of the state are currently listed and have places to contact to get help.

It baffles the mind how they can keep this nonsense going. How they can ignore those in need to focus on another area just because that is where the news was focusing on. Just because it is a name people will recognize when they hear it.

This is just another way all the cities and towns on the south west Florida coast get stiffed by those that are supposed to be helping them in this time of need. Not to mention all the little towns in between this coast and that one that were also damaged.

I don't mean to sound angered, because I am actually not. I am disappointed - continued below ...

and fed up more than anything.

You trust these people to do the right thing. I mean it is the taxes you pay every year, and the taxes of thousands of others locally (let alone nationally) who pay for these services. Yet, we get ignored.

We are all sitting here waiting for help. Calling the numbers. Logging on to the internet (those of us who can call and/or log on that is) and trying to find out what is going on. Trying to find some help.

And there is no help.

Sounds like something I would be making up. A fictional story. But it isn't. This is real and people are suffering. Sad it is.

I am publishing these articles in the hope that it will help even one person. Doesn't matter who. But if it reaches one soul who can make difference in the life of another soul, it is well worth the effort.

Know anyone who can make a difference? Ask them to help. We are down here waiting and could really use it.

Consider helping those who actually are in need, instead of those that are advertised.

Thank you for taking the time to read my article.

I hope it opens some eyes, and gets all the people who are hurt, like my own family and other local families, some help when they are in need.

Want to really help families in need? I would suggest that you donate to local south west Florida organizations that help south west Florida residents, rather than to the large groups that actually forget us and go elsewhere.
